Muurbloem design studio creates a home to work in for Stichting Cazas Wonen

UTRECHT, February 6, 2026 – Commissioned by Cazas Wonen and De Waal Beheer o.g., Muurbloem design studio created a 3,000 m² headquarters for the Woerden-based housing association. With a homely atmosphere where staff can work effectively and residents receive a warm welcome, this new headquarters is a future-proof workplace where the organization can continue to focus on the well-being of its residents for many years to come.

In times of working from home, it remains a challenge for employers to get their staff into the office, but not for Cazas Wonen. While preparing for the renovation of their previous headquarters, they discovered their organization had outgrown the building. In their search for a new location, they contacted De Waal Beheer, owners of a spacious building on Pelmolenlaan in the Middelland business park in Woerden. To quickly reach an agreement with the prospective tenant, Muurbloem, as De Waal's long-term design partner, was asked to quickly realize a design that would allow the organization to operate successfully for the duration of the lease.

A strong identity & strict budget management

Under the working title "A Home to Work In," Muurbloem spent four weeks developing a contemporary work environment that accommodates all the organization's activities and captures the corporation's identity through strong interior design and fresh materials. During the design process, Muurbloem provided cost estimates for the entire project, allowing Cazas Wonen to keep a close eye on budgets and make adjustments where necessary.

Commissioned by De Waal, which, as the building owner, oversaw the construction of the hard building components, Muurbloem supplied and installed interior sun blinds, voile curtains, carpets, and custom-made furniture, including lockers, a reception desk, and wall coverings.

Combining homely atmospheres with functional spaces

The concept groups the organization's activities into three categories, each with its own color: collaboration (green), focused work (blue), and socializing (red). A special carpet tile pattern has been designed on the floor, where the three colors blend together, symbolizing the social fabric of which the organization is a part and the various disciplines that collaborate within it. These three colors continue into the system walls, all of which are covered with high-quality textured wallcoverings and custom-designed seamless printed wallcovering.

“It is a pleasure to integrate Muurbloem design studio in our process: they respond to our working methods, adapt when the planning changes and actively think in solutions during construction.” — De Waal Beheer o.g.

A fit-out with homely highlights

Highlights include the botanical light fixture in the building's entrance hall, which unfolds above the lobby's living room. In the colorful work-lunch café, employees can enjoy fresh lunches and work on their projects in an accessible way. On the third floor, with its sloping roof, the organization gathers in the playful creative space for brainstorming, presentations, and relaxation.

“We are happy to have connected Muurbloem design studio. They gave us a warm home.” — Cazas Wonen

Simultaneously, an extensive inventory of existing furnishings (most of which were reused) from two locations was created for the corporation. Muurbloem organized the redistribution of the furniture across the new spaces and made an additional selection of new furniture and lighting, all of which was delivered and installed by the Muurbloem installation team.
